Michael - Mechanical Engineer, Transport team

Graduating from university is really just the start of the learning curve. Here at Maunsell I’ve worked on some amazing rail projects, including a major alliance where I had the opportunity to work with engineers from other firms. The project really benefited from this collaborative approach to deliver the best outcomes for the client. It’s a great feeling when you hear that the client is impressed with your work.

The best part of my job so far has been travelling to site inspections and seeing our designs being built. I’ve also been involved in design management aspects and coordination of design review processes. Maunsell gives you the opportunity to see your projects right through to commissioning when you can stand on site and think “I did that”.

There is a real sense of camaraderie among graduates. The Young Professional Development program (YPD) is a really supportive network that allows graduates to get to know each other on both a formal and informal basis through seminars, training courses and social functions.

I’ve made a lot of really great friends through the YPD program who are always able to lend a hand when I need it. This year I’m looking forward to carrying the baton as a YPD group leader, and helping new graduates make informed decisions about their training and professional development. If we can’t help out directly, we can always put graduates in touch with someone who can.
